REHEARSAL > Thursday, 09.08.11

How about this weather!?!?!? Nothing like heavy storms to throw a wrench in the cogs of the HMK machine. No matter...we will press on!

Tomorrow's rehearsal had previously been scheduled as a sectional block for winds from 3-5:15 PM with guard and percussion at the stadium from 6-9 PM. Due to the loss of our rehearsal this afternoon and the condition of our grass (or, at this point, marsh) rehearsal field, ALL members will rehearse tomorrow evening from 6-9:00 PM. The stadium turf is designed to absorb 14 inches of rain (per hour!) and will be a much safer and more productive environment for us in this weather.

> Members should report to the band room and be ready to rehearse by 6 PM and be prepared to operate in wet weather for the evening. Old sneakers, a rain coat, and a change of socks/shirt are appropriate. We will keep our eyes on the radar and make sure that everything is safe before heading elsewhere.

> As in years past, Back to School Night will be occurring from 7-8:30 PM. We will avoid impacting this event as much as possible, therefore we will be avoiding the use of the music suite. In the event of lightning/extreme weather, we will be able to make use of the Performing Arts Center. Again, if it is simply raining, we will head to the stadium.

> As always, student safety is our primary concern! We feel as though attempting to do what we are trying to do physically on our grass practice field is not the safest option for us at this point.

We're hoping to make some "lemonade" at this point. The weekend forecast is looking bleak, as well. We are officially in "play it by ear mode" - as always, we GREATLY APPRECIATE your flexibility. It seems like we've had to juggle dates/times more in the first two weeks of this season than we did in the last two seasons combined!
