HMK eNews > "Safety First!" Edition

Post date: Oct 29, 2012 6:10:06 PM

Greetings, all. I hope that every member of our HHS Band family is staying safe during this time.

Congratulations! > From Senior Knight on Friday through the USBands event on Saturday night, I literally could not be prouder of our organization. The judges' feedback is right on point and gives us some things to look at this week. My favorite comment came from the Music Performance judge who loved the "swagger" with which we performed. I CANNOT WAIT for this weekend!!!!

Video > A YouTube video of Saturday's performance has been made public. If you are able to view:

1) Enjoy the show! The staff spoke at length following the performance and all agreed that it was the best performance of the season (still arguments on whether it was HMKs best performance ever :)

2) Make notes for improvement both musically and visually. Take note of the correlation between execution and audience reaction. One musical comment from Gino Cipriani (Brass Caption Head of the Cadets and the Reading Bucs) was "Don't sacrifice quality for impact." The scary part is that, even with a GREAT show like we had on Saturday we can still make it better!

Schedule > Obviously, rehearsals for tomorrow are canceled. The storm will surely have an effect on the athletic calendars and will likely result in some scheduling juggling on our part. I will inform all stakeholders as soon as any decisions are made with regards to adjusting our calendar.

Finally > The good news is that your instruments do not require electricity to practice! Working on audition literature (District Auditions are around the corner), scales, concert repertoire ("Gum-Suckers" March!), or composing your own music can give you something fun and constructive to do while you wait out the storm.

Be SAFE!
