Post date: Sep 4, 2011 7:32:25 PM

HAPPY LABOR DAY! I sincerely hope that everyone is taking some time over the long weekend to reflect, relax, and recharge!

While the season has barely gotten underway, I'd like to say THANK YOU to all of the parent volunteers who have helped out thus far. Our students' experience is a direct reflection on the manpower and support provided by volunteers like you...THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!!!

*ONLY TWO WEEKS UNTIL OPENING KNIGHT! If you have yet to decide on the best committee for you, please email Karen Hess (esbie13@hotmail.com) as soon as possible!

- Are you an Iron Chef? Barbecue Master? There are plenty of aprons to fill at the Concession Stand!

- Interested in being an Ambassador for our school and community? Greeters are the face of our organization on show day!

- Want to help out but would rather stay "behind the scenes?" Set-up Crew is perfect for you!

If you are unsure of which committee would best suit you, no problem! Please let us know that you are planning to volunteer and we will find a great place for you! If you are new to the organization and still aren't quite sure what all of the fuss is about, I can assure you that Opening Knight will be a day that you and your family will never forget!

*IF YOU ARE PHYSICALLY ABLE TO CUT OR SEW AND ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING TO BRING THIS YEAR'S PRODUCTION TO LIFE, PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING TERRIE VANZANDT (tavz1361@comcast.net) AND THE SEWING COMMITTEE! Sewing committee is a great place to meet new friends, catch up with old acquaintances, and gain a sense of satisfaction that comes with knowing that you produced a part of the show that will be performed week after week! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

> Friday Review

From the field to the stands to the march out of the stadium, the members of HMK put on an impressive display of artistry and professionalism at the first football game of the season on Friday, September 2nd!

In case you missed it, a YouTube video (credit: Kevin Gretz) is available to view at mrgumble.hempfieldsd.org

Members: please take the opportunity to evaluate your performance. While there is still much room for improvement, I have to say that I could not have been more pleased by our first public performance! Watch the video three times: once focusing on music (turn the screen off), once focusing on visual (turn the volume off) and once for your own enjoyment!!!! What you learn from the video will allow us to improve EVEN BEFORE WE STEP FOOT ON THE PRACTICE FIELD! :)

Remember...knowledge is power!

> Preview Knight (7 PM) and Tailgate (5 PM) - Tuesday, September 6th

Do your best "No Rain Dance!" Students should report to the band room by 4:00 PM for warm-up. Uniform for the evening will be: Show Shirt, Weather-appropriate pants, and sneakers. Please remind your friends and families about the rescheduled date!

> Ensemble Rehearsal - Wednesday (3-5:15)

We will be learning drill for our second production, "Searching for Balance." Members should have "Searching" music memorized by this rehearsal.

> Wind Sectional - Thursday (3-5:15)

Guard and Percussion Sectional - Thursday (6-9)

Sectionals will focus on "Searching for Balance"

> Football vs. Lancaster Catholic - Friday, September 9th (4:30 Report)

Because of a special September 11th tribute prior to the game, HMK will be performing during Halftime.

> Mini-Camp Rehearsal - Saturday, September 10th (1-5)

Opening Knight preparations continue during this Mini-Camp rehearsal block!

Opening Knight Walk-Through (for Committee Chairpersons) - Saturday, September 10th (following Mini-Camp)
