Hempfield Bands eNEWS - Memorial Day Edition!

Greetings, all! For some of you, this is your FIRST eNewsletter from the Hempfield Band Program! For others, this may be your last (single tear...). For EVERYONE, this eNews is CHOCK-FULLA-INFO, so please take a few minutes to read :)

2010 HMK MEMBERS ("Lived the Dream" in 2010!)

Memorial Day Parade Rehearsals (05.24 and 05.26, 3-4 PM)

> Rehearsals Tuesday (05.24), Thursday (05.26) until 4:00 PM

> "This Is My Country" and "Shippin' Up To Boston" separated by Drum Cadences

> PIT - only need to attend on Thursday

RES Pep Rally (05.27, first and second period!)

> 9-12 grade members of HMK will perform at the RES pep rally from 8:50-9:30 on Friday, 05.27

> Students should inform their first and second period teachers that they will be participating

> Tunes will include stand hits from the 2010 season! :)

Mountville Memorial Day Parade (05.30, Report @ 5:00 PM)

> Report to Mountville ES @ 5:00 PM

> Parade begins @ 6:00 PM

> Shorter route...no cemetery stop this year

Equipment Return Day (05.31, 3-4:30 PM)

> All school-owned equipment must be returned. This includes:

- Instruments, Mouthpieces

- Uniforms (pants and jackets)

- Shakos

- Hat Boxes

- Flip Folders

- Lyres

> Failure to return equipment will result in Graduation/Grade Promotion Holds.

> Juniors and Seniors from 3:00-3:45, Freshmen and Sophomores from 3:45-4:30 PM

> Returning members will sign-out marching instruments at this time.

> New members will sign-out equipment that evening at New Member Knight.

2011 HMK MEMBERS (The "Quest" for Excellence in 2011!)

HMK New Member Knight and Booster Meeting (2011 Members, 05.31, 7-9 PM)

> New Member and Parent Orientation from 7-8 PM (for ALL new members and parents)

> 2011 Opening Booster Meeting, 8-9 PM (ALL parents should attend!)

> Members will sign-out instruments, "break the ice" during the Booster Meeting!

> 2011 Show Announcement!!!!

Summer Brass Days!

> FREE lessons provided by Mr. Gumble on Wednesdays throughout June and July! (not meant to replace private instruction)

> Highly recommended for:

- students at ANY level who are looking to improve their skills!

- District Band hopefuls

- HMK switches

> Interested members may sign-up at mrgumble.hempfieldsd.org. Please include preferred time slot (not guaranteed) and weeks that will be missed.

> Please sign-up for lessons by Friday, June 3rd. A detailed schedule will be distributed following the sign-up period.

First HMK Rehearsal (06.15, 6-9 PM)

> The quest begins!

Music Honors Night (06.02, 6 PM)

> Families who are attending the annual Music Honor's Night on Thursday, June 2nd should RSVP to myself or Dr. Mudrick along with the number of attendees (family) by Wednesday, May 25th.

> This event is held each year to recognize all seniors and award winners this year from each curricular and extracurricular performing ensemble! If you are unsure as to whether you will be receiving an award, please contact Amelia.

> The evening begins with a "Pot Luck" dinner in the HS cafeteria, followed by the awards presentation and Tri-M/Solo Ensemble recital in the PAC.

> While formal attire (ie - dresses, jackets, and ties) is not required, students should dress in "business casual" manner. Shorts, t-shirts, jeans, and/or sneakers would not be appropriate attire for the evening's festivities :)

> For the meal, we respectfully request that each family bring a main course "covered dish" to serve 8-10 people and a salad or dessert as indicated below:

- Families with last name A through M - please bring a main course and a dessert

- Families with last name N through Z - please bring a main course and a salad

> Again, please RSVP by Wednesday, May 25th! :)
